This technique is known as the Centrifugal Flip. This is one of at least 5 different basic ways to power a golf shot. Some examples of players that created their power through this type of swing would be Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Julius Boros & Bruce Crampton.

There is no need to consciously "flip" a club regardless of shaft material because the club head wants to rotate around its sweet spot all on its own if allowed to do so with a light grip. The "flip" of the hands is an automatic response to that tendency not a conscious effort. You give up control to gain control
